Kevin Kolb will make his debut Sunday as the Eagles' new starting quarterback. But right now, there are more questions about the players who will be lining up in front of him than there are about Kolb.

The Eagles shipped their struggling right guard, Stacy Andrews, to Seattle for a seventh-round pick over the weekend. Nick Cole, who started 10 games at right guard in place of Andrews last season and did a serviceable job, will start Sunday's season-opener against the Green Bay Packers.

A bigger concern is at center where Jamaal Jackson returns just eight months removed from ACL surgery. He didn't start practicing until mid-August and didn't play in any of the Eagles' preseason games.

Even head coach Andy Reid admitted Wednesday that he doesn't know what to expect...

NFL Power Poll: Packers' expectations soar, but Jets still No. 1 Green Bay is the smallest market in the NFL, but no team has created more buzz over the past month. Although last season's 7-1 finish has played a part, the attention is largely based on the unstoppable preseason performance of quarterback Aaron Rodgers and the offense. The players have accepted the high expectations without letting the hype get to them. "I don't see a problem with it," tight end Jermichael Finley said.

Trent Williams walked into the locker room holding a 4-inch binder with hundreds of pages detailing the Washington Redskins offensive game plan. He said it's about 10 times thicker than the game plans he had at Oklahoma. That's appropriate. His assignment is his first NFL game is going to be about 10 times tougher than what he usually faced in early season games in college.

During training camp, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers noted that the team has a different kind of swagger this year. He called it "real confidence." Now that Rodgers enters Sunday's regular season opener in Philadelphia as a fashionable pick to become the league's MVP and lead his team on a long playoff run this year, Rodgers said his own approach hasn't changed.

Three story lines Mirror images? Eagles QB Kevin Kolb is hoping to emerge the same way his game counterpart, Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, has. Rodgers, who replaced icon Brett Favre in Green Bay, has fast become a top-five quarterback. The jury’s out on Kolb, who replaced fixture Donovan McNabb. Kolb can’t match Rodgers’ arm strength but shares similar athleticism and accuracy. Offense doesn’t rest: Don’t be surprised if some crooked numbers appear on the scoreboard.

Gregg Williams exhibits a fanatical devotion to the concept of necessary roughness. The Saints' defensive coordinator is quick to remind his players that defenses are "respected when they're feared." He also won't punish players if they're flagged for late hits or unnecessary roughness, as long as the penalty resulted from aggression, not "stupidity." Defensive...
Big concerns: NFC East (SportingNews.com) View Full Story
Mon, 06 Sep 2010 19:19:00 PDT
A look at each team's biggest concern with the start of the NFL season less than a week away. Dallas Cowboys Starters scored one touchdown in 12 preseason possessions, so the offense must get significant improvement from the offensive line. RT Marc Colombo is expected to return after missing all of preseason with a knee injury, which should help because backup T Alex Barron is not a good enough run blocker to play that position. Barron is more finesse than power, which doesn't mesh well alongside RG Leonard Davis.
